Giving Tuesday: December 1, 2020

♥ Open your heart for dogs ♥

After the holiday season spending on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good.

This year we’re asking our dog-loving supporters to open their hearts on Giving Tuesday for unowned dogs across the country that need our help!

From running our signature Every Dog, Every Day! seminars at shelters (and now through online webinars) – teaching them the lifesaving impact of running daily dog playgroups – to taking on special cases at our Canine Center Florida, Dogs Playing for Life is helping so many dogs get the chances they deserve to be happy and thriving in life.

"SAVE THE 21" DOGS: MAURICE & HANSEL

Maurice and Hansel were survivors of an internationally publicized cruelty case where the animals were held in custody for nearly two years before being released into the ownership of Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary, thanks to their successful “Save the 21” campaign and legal battle.

Due to the breed ban in Ontario, Canada, Dog Tales was required to house the dogs elsewhere and the Canine Center Florida was the chosen facility to support their recovery and hopeful placement.

After extended time and specialized care and training, we were able to find positive outcomes for 96% of these victims of cruelty!

While at Canine Center Florida, Maurice enjoyed his engagement with people the most! Maurice was always an eager participant in his playgroups, drive expression, and training sessions, but his favorite time revolved around attention and affection from his handlers, strangers – anybody really.

Maurice has been the adored “furbaby” of his adopters since May of 2019 after transferring to another one of our placement partners, the Paws for Life K9 Rescue in California.

“We adopted Maurice in May 2019 from Paws for Life K9 in Los Angeles at an adoption event. While we weren’t 100% planning on adopting a dog that day, sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith.

We fell in love with Maurice instantly! Since we have adopted him, he has somehow managed to make us fall more in love with him each and every day. We have seen him make tremendous strides in his self-confidence, his recall of both new and existing vocabulary, his never-ending desire to please as well as his ability to trust.

He has opened his heart to us and we have opened our home to him. There is no one else that we would rather have hog the bed, share our snacks with or go on adventures with than this guy. He brings laughter to our daily lives.

We are so happy and grateful for the team that helped to build him up into the lovable goof and amazing family member that he is today.” Maurice’s Human Mom

Hansel is a very special dog. We initially were doubtful about being able to find him a suitable home due to his extreme arousal and difficulty in handling him without becoming his personal walking tug toy!

While we recognized his incredible talent and potential, we were concerned that he would prove to be “too much dog” for most and therefore began training, in earnest, to secure him placement as a sport/working dog rather than a pet.

We are proud to have identified Hansel’s heart and ability and will be eternally grateful to the Throw Away Dogs Project for finding Hansel his perfect match, partner and home as the First Pitbull Arson Detection K-9 in the U.S.
